We've put together some handy tips and advise enabling you to think smart when it comes to planning your next Brand Activation...
Location is vital to the success of your promotion, taking into account several factors whilst asking the following questions will help you find the right spot…
Think carefully about your target market, firstly, ‘Do they visit the location?' It must be somewhere that a high volume of your target audience regularly visit to ensure your message is getting to the right people. ‘How often do they visit?’ Think about the time of year, take into account holidays and understand the physical movements of your market.
Next ask ‘How long do they spend at the location?’ Avoid wasted expenses on staffing and opening times, if your audience don’t arrive until midday plan your activation to suit.
Your location will dictate many other factors relating to the experience of your activation, take into account the temperature. ‘Is it an outside venue?’ If so make sure you are providing adequate provisions for your staff… A Brand Ambassador that is cold will not perform as well as happy warm one! Plus your visitors will think twice about hanging around to engage if the environment is uninviting.
It has been touched on above, but understanding your target audience is crucial. Get into their minds. What will entice them? What will keep them interested and engaging in your activation long enough to get your message across?
An example being a more elderly audience are often put off by a forceful approach, you would have greater success creating a space that captures the ageing demographic. Once you have them interested in the space and talking with you it is much easier to deliver your brand message.
Remember the three ‘C’s’… Clear, Concise, Creative.
Keep it clear and understandable, you will more than likely be using Event Support Staff or Brand Ambassadors to convey your message. Unfortunately even the best BAs in the country don’t have the time to learn every aspect of your business or product.
Think about time, a concise message is often the best way to go… But consider how long will each engagement last for? If you have a more detailed message it would be wise to create an activation to suit, keeping your visitors engaged and interested in the activation long enough to get your message across.
Creating something different and interesting will ensure visitors are enticed to your activation, take into account your audience what will attract them and how does it relate to your massage. Designing an attractive installation that creates questions, offers experiences and stands out is a recipe for success.
Feedback and Targets:
Always ask WHY? What are you trying to achieve? Make sure you have a clear aim and target. This could include generate more members, data capture, displaying a product or conveying your brand message. Daily reports are important to measure the success of your activation, to get the right information think about creating a custom report form for mangers to complete.
Listen to your Event Manager/s feedback, it is very rare that activations will be perfect from day one. Be flexible and ready to adapt day-by-day, this will only develop your campaign for the better and increase its success.
Your most valuable assets are the boots on the ground who are experiencing the interactions with your audience first hand. If they communicate any issues or ideas of how to improve the activation… Listen and react.

Believe it or not, social media is now the number 1 platform for advertising and consumer engagement. ON A SIDE NOTE: 9 times out of 10 social media is now the first place people will head if they're not happy, ensure you respond in a professional and friendly manor and always try to resolve your issue over email.
It's also a place where people can leave reviews, hopefully your event or company page will be full of 5* reviews - however, if you feel someone has left an unfair or damaging review you can of course remove it or report it.
As touched on previously, social media advertising is extremely cheap in comparison to magazine and online advertising. Therefore you get so much more for your money. Stats show people are 71% more likely to purchase a product if it's been recommended to them through social media. By allocating even a small amount of budget to boost posts and events on social media, you'll notice a remarkable reach, targeting people that matter to you and your brand. 4. Enhancing The Live Experience:
FOMO really exists - And it's an overwhelming anxiety of missing out on an event! If your event is an annual one, make sure you're uploading quality content throughout the entire production process - videos, GIFs, photos and reviews will ensure all those individuals who are weighing up whether to buy a ticket or not, or have missed out previously will be more inclined to get involved if they can see first hand what a great time your attendees are having. Be sure to plaster all the best coverage from your event across your social media channels as it's a great way to get people tagging and thus sharing your content.

As the world changes around us, so does the Events industry. And perhaps at a faster pace than we feel we can keep up with? This week i've put together a few observations as to how I believe the Events Industry has evolved throughout the year and how it continues to do so... But don't let that scare you, this is an extremely exciting and creative time to be working in the industry. There are now endless opportunities for creative output and the ability to turn brilliant ideas and concepts into a reality. We truly are limitless.
Here are my top three pieces of advice for being successful in 2017...
1. Event or Experience?
What are you trying to achieve from your next project? Are you looking to just create an event? Or are you trying to create something a little bit more? A unforgettable experience so to speak? Of course you are! And for us, it is certainly the latter. In my opinion, events are often associated with a hefty price tag, whereas experiences are something more. Experiences can't bought, as they are a journey. They are something that is remembered and admired for years to come. The term 'experience' in 2016 seems be exactly what people are searching for. From an Event Marketing perspective, projects are now generally being looked at and referred to as an experience - which is right, you are working with a client on a project from the start until the bitter end. The ups the downs... And so on and so on. Because after all, that is all part of the EXPERIENCE.
2. The Personable Approach.
Gone are the days in which there lies a barrier or a tv screen between consumer and brand. Brands in 2016 are your new best friend. With the rise of experiential marketing, consumers couldn't be closer to brands and know more about them. With the opportunity to now feel, touch and test out a product before you buy, brands are now creating individual experiences (there's that word again!)
For consumers or would-be consumers this reach goes far beyond the impact of print, broadcast and online copy. A recent study showed that consumers were 96% more likely to purchase a product after participating in an experiential activation and 74% will have a more positive outlook of your brand. Now that's some pretty high stats!
3. Getting Inside Your Brain... The Psychology Behind Event Marketing.
...Firstly, people love free stuff. It's a fact. Anything of value, that would usually cost money can be used to promote your brand or event with real ease. Not got stuff to give away? Then why not team up with a relevant brand for your event? Not only does it work brilliantly when it comes to getting consumers to brag about their freebies on social media (whilst tagging you in it), it also teams you up with potential sponsors for your next event, alongside some cracking cross promotion. Everyone's a winner! This also links back to the successful nature of Experiential Events and Marketing - bring yourself closer to your consumer by plying them with free gifts and presents, how could they possible resist you?
Secondly, people love cool stuff and by 'cool stuff' I mean cutting edge technology, things they couldn't usually experience at home. This brings me to the development of augmented and virtual reality...
So, you've all heard of Pokémon Go right? Right. Well this technology is called Augmented Reality: Augmented Reality combines both computer generated elements and the reality to create an augmented world. With augmented reality, viewers interact with computer generated overlays as they move within the real world.
Now for Virtual Reality: A little more well known, virtual reality is a three dimensional completely computer generated environment. Users usually need to wear a Virtual Reality headset and may also need compatible gloves or handsets to be able to effectively interact with this world.
Both AR and VR are taking the world by storm and you may be wondering what it's got to do with events? Well let me tell you, with so much potential, VR and AR have the ability to change the way we discuss, attend, and interact at events...
Event organisers are quickly clocking on to what can actually be done and created through these technologies - For example, you can create virtual venues and fully immersive event spaces and on the flip side, people can also attend these virtual events. It really is amazing!
So there you have it, my top three tips to think about when planning your next event or *ahem* 'experience' in 2017.
